Unfortunately, many companies do not pay enough attention to an IT infrastructure disaster recovery plan. Most clients have HA clusters of virtual machines and even regularly back up all business-critical data. Yet, when facing a serious failure, such as the failure of an entire virtual server cluster, the breakdown of a production storage system, or another technological disaster at the data center, including seizure of equipment by law enforcement, the company finds itself in an emergency situation for which it was not prepared in advance.
To address such incidents, every company should have a pre-prepared DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan) – a disaster recovery plan. A DRP plan is a document that outlines the sequence of actions to restore IT infrastructure in the event of a failure or total catastrophe. Two key parameters of a DRP plan are RTO and RPO.
RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is the time required to fully restore operations after a failure.
RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is the recovery point, i.e., the point in time before the failure to which all company information will be restored.
Each business must decide for itself what RTO and RPO parameters are acceptable, even under the most adverse scenarios. Naturally, the lower these values, the better. However, if RTO and RPO need to be within just a few minutes, simple backups alone are insufficient.
To ensure minimal RTO and RPO indicators for virtual server infrastructures, LanCloud has brought the Cloud DRaaS service to the market.
Cloud DRaaS is built on Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Cloud Connect products. At the client’s data center, a Veeam Backup & Replication Server is deployed, constantly synchronizing virtual machines with Veeam Cloud Connect in the LanCloud cloud. In case of failure, the client activates the Failover procedure, and all virtual servers are launched in the LanCloud cloud. Veeam automatically configures an L2 VPN tunnel to the client’s data center, allowing all servers to remain accessible on the same internal IP addresses. When the primary data center is restored, the client can initiate Failback, and all servers are replicated back and started in the client’s DC.
In addition to the failover procedure, clients can restore individual files and applications from cloud replicas, just like regular backups. Currently, LanCloud supports disaster recovery for virtual servers running on the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor.
All new LanCloud clients are offered a 1-month free trial: https://lancloud.kz/oblachnye-servisy/cloud-draas/.
